OK, so I know about the gay suicidal violinist, but I can't help but be horrified by what people are not talking about.

There were two boys in that video.
Think about that for a minute.

How would you feel if someone killed themselves because it was revealed they made out with you?
Now really think about that.

How would you feel if the entire school rallied around that person, saying they understood why he did it.
How the fuck would you feel?

I have no idea where this kid is emotionally now, but my guess is he's far worse off than the kid that jumped and no one seems to care because he's not dead yet.

It makes me sick.

From what I gathered from the article, the other person was older, not another 18yr old.

That being said, I would hope that the other person - no matter the age - would understand that it was not the act that made the boy jump off the bridge, but the embarrassment of having it broadcast over the 'net without consent. Yes, this is some terrible karma to be heaped upon you, but it is the roommate's fault, not the lover's.

Cold comfort, but I hope he understands that.

While I understand your concern for the other boy and I even agree with it. The issue wasn't gossip. Everyone in school wasn't saying a boy made out with you and then killed himself. Sex acts were recordered and publicly played without the consent of anyone involved in order to hold them up for ridicule.

This is an invasion of privacy beyond mere speach. The person who recordered the sex acts new the name of the person who killed himself -- he was his roommate. I don't think he knew who his sex partners were and that may still be unknown to the public at large.

The problem here is the actual sex being held open for public scrutiny which might have been a problem (though I grant you less of one) even if the people involved had been hetero-sexual.

I know the people who did this were motivated by disgust at the victim's sexual orientation, but the acts were designed to humiliate by holding up the actual acts to voyeristic ridicule which is worse than gossiping about someone's gay roommate.

The sex partner may have been able to retain his annonymity and thus his dignity. His private pain would still be great; I grant you that.
